PS4 Day 1- High sales but too much volume for the Playstation Network

PS4 day 1 sales were high: pre-orders sold out, people in line overnight, and even people steeling to get this new console, Sony still wasn’t ready for the volume.

For those of you that haven’t gotten your PS4 you have time and you should be thankful you didn’t do it on Day 1. There is a myriad of problems PS4 opening weekend starting with the PSN (Playstation Network) being down intermittently due to too much volume. Many owners were planning on downloading the games they weren’t able to find in stores and with the network down that killed their dreams until it opened up again. Also you may want to hold onto that PS3 a little longer since the PS4 is not backwards compatible, meaning that you won’t be able to play any PS3 games on your PS4! That’s right you need to buy all new games!! Unfortunately there aren’t that many games yet for PS4 so many people are disappointed. Yes there are some Heavy Hitters out already if you can find them in stores or if the PSN is working you can download them.  Check out the PS4 games at www.yourmediaworld.com.

There is also Playstation Plus, the membership for the Playstation networks. With this you get access to a collection of games, discounts on some games, and multiplayer access. So far I only see a few games that you get at discount or free and I haven’t found this “collection” of games but I’m sure this will grow as Sony has time to build it up.

Most of the Day 1 issues will be or already have been worked out. There are some great improvements between the PS3 and the PS4 that are worth noting. Of course it has all the sharing capabilities you would expect posting to facebook sharing videos etc. Updated controllers with touchpad capabilities and mic connection. A camera accessory you can add, although I haven’t fully explored its benefits. There is an app and you can connect your smart phone to the system. This allows you to use it as a second screen, get game alerts, messages, and even power down the PS4.  The navigation is much cleaner and easier to understand, there is a standby mode, and my favorite you can turn the system off from the controller.  Previous flaws in PS3 made you have to go to the console to turn it off every time, extremely annoying and caused the console to be left on overnight frequently.  Finally one of the best parts of PS4 with its 500 GB hard drive you will most likely be downloading more games than waiting for them in stores and now you can play the games while they are downloading; immediate gratification that is what we are all about!

So Day 1 had some major bugs but by the time you are buying this for the Holidays most of those flaws will be resolved and your gamer will be happy. Even with those flaws I am happy with the system now. Happy Gaming!
